What Actually Goes Into a Marketing Strategy
“What even is a strategy?”
I've had three clients ask me that in one week, and honestly, I love that they did. Because most people in this space are out there posting, emailing, tweaking their website, booking discovery calls, with no actual thread connecting any of it. That's not strategy. That's just busy, and busy is inevitable when nobody's ever explained the difference.
Here's the difference.
Strategy is just a plan
It's looking at everything you already have, your Instagram, your offers, your emails, your website, and deciding how they work together to move someone from “I just found her” to “I need to book with her.” That's the whole thing. It's not a 40 page document. It's not a marketing degree. It's the answer to three questions.
Question one: who am I talking to, and do they know I exist?
Not a vague description. A specific person, with a specific Tuesday-night problem. And a real answer to how she'd actually find you, not a hopeful one.
Question two: when she finds me, does what she sees make sense (to her)?
Your Instagram, your website, your offers. Do they all say roughly the same thing, or does each one tell a slightly different story? Most practices have at least a small mismatch here, and it's usually invisible from the inside.
Question three: is there a clear next step?
Once someone lands on your page, genuinely interested, do they know exactly what to do next? Or is it a maze of links with no obvious next move?
Where practices usually get stuck
Most know the answer to question one reasonably well. They've thought about their ideal client, at least a bit. Questions two and three are where things fall apart, because they require looking at your own business through a stranger's eyes, which is specifically hard to do when you're the one inside it.
Why this matters more than posting more
When your content says one thing, your website says another, and your offers sit somewhere in the middle, people get confused. Confused people don't book, no matter how consistently you show up. Strategy is what sorts that out, properly, so the effort you're already putting in finally has somewhere to go.
